Gerta Vrbova is a Holocaust survivor. She is also my Grandma.
This short film about displacement, survival and family belonging tells her story through my eyes. Like Claude Lanzmann’s “Shoah”, a film which subordinates the use of archival footage in favour of testimony and memory, I sought to present her story as I remembered hearing it. A history lesson surrounded by simmering pans and cups of Earl Grey Tea, my greatest story belongs to her.
